Naason Joaquin Garcia was accused of 26 charges in the city of Los Angeles, United States, for the crimes of human trafficking and child pornography, much to the surprise of the parishioners. Garcia is detain since June 4^th and it was denied his right for a bail, and he is waiting for the audience on September 19th to know the date of his trail.

The Church of the Light of World is one of the biggest evangelic churches in Mexico. It is in 58 countries and reunites, around, five million parishioners.

Since the year he became president, 2014, after the death of his father, Naason Joaquin kept a low profile until two events happened that put him on the public opinion.

After a controversial concert in his honor in the Palace of Beautiful Arts of Mexico, he was arrested in Los Angeles, California, on June 4th and accused of 26 charges of child pornography, child abuse, and human trafficking.

California’s District Attorney, Xavier Becerra, announced his capture, and said: “Crimes such as these ones have no place in our society. Period.” The prosecution indicates that between 2015 and 2018, Garcia and some accomplices committed sexual abuses, which lead to face charges of:

Alleged human trafficking;
production of child pornography;
coerced rapping of a minor, among other 26 charges.

“Joaquin Garcia and his accomplices allegedly coerced their victims into performing sexual intercourse by telling them that refusing to any of their whishes or the ‘Messenger’s’ whishes would go against the will of God”, added the Prosecution.

The biggest Evangelic church of Mexico has a new leader since 2014, following the death of Naason Garcia’s father, Samuel Joaquin Flores, thus making him a third-generation leader of this congregation.

The Church of the Light of the World was created by an ex combatant of the Mexican Revolution, Eusebio Joaquin Gonzalez, grandfather of the accused, who, in 1926, had an epiphany to restore the church created by Jesus Christ.

The Guadalajara-based church set the basis to what is known nowadays as Hermosa Provincia colony, the congregation’s main headquarters. From that moment on, and together with “Aaron”, the church mixed Hebrew religious traditions, New and Old Testament, Catholic Church, and elements of other Evangelic congregation, and claimed to be the true church founded by Jesus Christ.

It is not the first time Naason is accused of sexual abuse. On his early years there were rumors of him preparing young girls to provide sexual pleasure; he was accused of doing so.

His right for a bail was denied, stating that it must not be considered a declaration of guiltiness. In addition, a/v and photographic evidence of child pornography were found on the smart phones of the spiritual leader.

Mexico is the country with more cases of sexual child abuse in the world

According to the Economic Cooperation and Development Organization, Mexico holds the top on the list of sexual child abuse with 5.4 million cases every year. These results were exposed during the “Sexual violence against children and teenagers: legislative challenges” forum, organized by the National Action Party (PAN) senator, Josefina Vázquez.

Since 20 years ago, Tlaxcala is considered the entity with the highest incidence in pederasty and child traffic, followed by Querétaro and Chihuahua. This is proof of the ineffectiveness that rules the civil and penal justice system on theses cases.

The director of the IMSS’s Century XXI Medic Center’s Pediatric Hospital, Javier Enrique López Aguilar, highlighted during his presentation that reinforcing the children’s sexual education is a number one priority, according to the different growth stages of the child. This will provide them the tools to identify risks and sexual violence behaviors against them.

He spoke about the importance of opening safe, trustworthy, reachable, and anonymous-based, communication paths; as well as the need of having shared responsibility on the actions taken by the authorities and the judicial instances related to the protection of children.

Another issue was related to social networks. Latin America’s most popular network’s security and users’ well-being area’s leader, María Cristina Capelo, exposed what are the steps taken by the authorities and specialized instances when it comes to underage users’ protection, worldwide.

The zero-tolerance with general, and especially with children, sexual abuse is shown in the most advanced technology used to remove content and go directly against the people that create fake profiles or groups that debate about the ways to avoid the existant policies against sexual violence and child pornography.

The social network works together with the Mexican specialized authorities on the security matter. They are developing a prevention network to act faster and detect fake accounts that encourage these kinds of crimes.

Most of the victims of child sexual abuse are girls.

According to a child abuse-related study at the National University of Luján, there is a tendency of five girls per each boy being abused, boys only represent 17% of these cases. Also, the aggressors are males that are directly related to the victims’ family environment.

This investigation was carried out reviewing and analyzing legal files in family tribunals, working on three profiles focused on people involved in child sexual abuse cases:

The victim of abuse is a kid.
The aggressor is an adult.
The people that listen to the child’s story about the abuse.

The investigation, known as Childhood and necessities. Child Sexual Abuse (CSA), started in 2016 at the National University of Luján’s Social Sciences Department. It helps to demystify this cloudy topic for society and it also provides professionals from different disciplines the tools to work on this field.

The investigation’s main objective is to characterize this group of people that have been victims of abuse concerning how old are they, how many boys, how many girls, and things about the abuser, trying to understand why do they end up being victims, who listen to them and how do they react to what the children say.

France is shocked by the worst pedophilia case ever known

France is living one of the most horrifying pedophilia cases in a long time. Investigators found notebooks in a French medic’s house, where he described child pornography scenes. The doctor was accused of raping and sexually abusing at least 200 underage patients while they were anesthetized.

Although the defense holds that the notebooks register only fantasies, but they do no confess any crime, the author of these diaries -a 68-year-old surgeon from Jonzac city, in the New Aquitaine region-, will be judged for the raping and assault of four children. But the number of victims could be a lot higher.

The first accusation was made in 2017 by a 6-year-old girl. She told her father that this man had shown his sex in front of her. At that moment, the surgeon was suspended from medical consultations. The reason was the diffusion of child pornography images.

When the authorities investigated, they discovered that the doctor had sexually abused the girl in front of her 2-year-old brother. When they searched the medic’s house, they found:

Sexual toys.
Pictures of the naked suspect.
Wigs.
Dolls.
Notebooks with drawings and texts that describe pedophile acts.

With the information in the notebooks, the authorities must contact every one of the people that are described in the diary and verify if the events narrated are true or not. At the moment the doctor will be judged for aggression and raping of the complaining girl, as well as two of his nephews and a fourth victim.

According to the lawyer that represents the little girl, the events described by the other three victims were registered in the notebooks. It is presumed that part of the things described in the surgeon’s notebooks happened, and this lawyer’s statement supports that idea.

It is estimated that more than 250 girls and boys were assaulted during the years. The notebooks lead to people that currently might not even remember what could have happened. The kids treated in the hospitals where this surgeon was working were vulnerable targets and were completely defenseless after the surgeries, while they were on their recovery stage.

The things described in the surgeon’s texts are aberrant. The doctor admitted that his behavior was inappropriate, but he claims that he never abused any child and his texts are fiction.

It is important to understand that pedophiles that are used to commit these aggressions are socially accepted people. They are careful with careful and attentive to children. When people think about someone with this pathology, this described profile is usually the opposite of what they imagine.

Unexpected Alliances against Pedophilia

An alliance was created between the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile and the Foundation for Trust with the purpose of creating the Center of Investigation of Abuse and Early Adversity, known as CUIDA in Spanish. The authorities of both foundations were surprised by Pope Francis via streaming, who highlighted the importance of looking after children.

This alliance whishes to gather evidences, foster public policies, and develop prevention tools against child abuse focus mainly in the Catholic Church.

The Trust Foundation was created by victims of former priest, Fernando Karadima. They were received by the Pope in the Holy See in 2018.

Members of the association said the Alliance was unexpected and driven by the greater good. Jose Andres Murillo, activist of the foundation, stated that –clarifying no one has the absolute truth about the topic -, the only guarantee is the hard work and results achieved.

According to the words from the headmaster of the Catholic University, Ignacio Sanchez Dias, the center will try to identify the social, cultural, and family aspects that enable abuse, as well as those who promote protection for children, and ease the trauma caused to the minor.

The investigation is expected to impulse public policies that allows to move to a more protective and respectful society for children and teenagers.

The head of the institution, Maria Pia Santelices, manifested that all the efforts from CUIDA will focus on repairing the traumatic experience children and teenagers have had.

Vatican’s Blessing via Streaming

During the agreement sign, which originated this center, they received a surprise intervention from Pope Francis, who celebrated this initiative to protect the heart of children from this kind of abuse.

His Holiness began by saying: “I want to be here on the day the Foundation Cuida comes into fruition. This foundation will not only take care of many cases of prevention and abuse, but it will also investigate and create policies to safeguard more and more children from abuse, manipulation, or anything that might destroy their heart.”

He also expressed that the allied sciences used in this center are focus on the heart of children. The name of the foundation also says a lot, it takes care of the heart with love.

The activities of CUIDA will focused on three lines of research:

Impact of early adversity in health
Social and institutional context, especially religious, of abuse during childhood.
Attachment and prevention of early adversity

In addition to the Foundation, a team of scholars and professional of various areas like psychology, psychiatry, genetic, psychophysiology, neuroscience, theology, anthropology, sociology, epidemiology, medicine, public health, law, history, and economy.

The initiative to create the center comes from the great amount of cases the Trust Foundation received, and that it will be in charge of reestablishing trust towards the Catholic Church. It will forward the repairing and prevention of abuse from relatives or people closet or people close to the family, institutions or religions.

Wave of Child-Abuse Lawsuits Strike New York Again

A new bill ruled by the state of New York will allow victims from sexual abuse, does not matter the age, and for a year, to file a law suit against the alleged criminal, guarantying payment for their actions not matter when the crime was committed.

Wave of Law Suits

With the new Law of Victims of Child Abuse in New York, a wave of law suits is expected to happen; the state has prepared itself to receive more than a thousand. That is why it has appointed 45 judges to exclusively handle the cases related to this law. It was approved early this year, but it was implemented in August.

On the first day the law came into force, at first hour, at least 85 people filed law suits against the Catholic Church, said New York Supreme Court. In most cases, victims presented their accusations against their abusers and those who covered them.

After a year has passed, in what is known as retrospective window, victims will be able to suit alleged abusers before a judge. This rises the age gap because the victim could file the law suit until he or she if 55 years old, previously age was until 23.

Likewise, prosecutors could present charges that can lead to prison before a jury until the victim is 28 years old, which raises the limit from 23 years olds, as it was established until now.

New York joined a dozen other states that ask for an expansion on the age limit, obtaining an increase on the statutes of limitation regarding filing law suits for this crime. Now it offers the possibility to go to court until the age of 55.

By 2003, the retrospective window in California managed to promote over a thousand trails, most of them against the Catholic Church, which meant the first step for San Diego Diocese to file for bankruptcy protection. The estimation is the in New York it can go over the amount of trails presented by the other states.

In the USA, there have been accusations against religious institutions, elite private schools, celebrities, movie producers, and business tycoons, like the recently deceased Jeffrey Epstein, accused of sex trafficking. He allegedly hanged himself in his cell, in Manhattan.

Child Abuse: Teach your Child to Recognize the Signs

With the ever growing flow of information, we are more aware of the amount of cases of sexual abuse and aggressions children suffer. That is why is necessary to focus on prevention from this type of abuse, and to empower them so they can stay away from predators.

Statistics indicates that one in every 10 children in the USA will be victim of abuse before 18 years of age. We must do everything we can to prevent it.

It is known fact that predators can smells people struggling in other areas of their live that are vulnerable. People close to the family can be the aggressors. They prey on the trust the family has on them. In some cases is even worst, the abuses can come from a family member.

There are certain measures we can take to protect and provide our children with tools to act before this situation:

Teach them that feelings matter and that must be respected. Validate the feelings the child shares, it will give him a sense of self, and it will help him recognize his own emotions. By doing so, a child can notice when something is not right, this makes it hard to be manipulated. Sensitive children towards what is right or wrong are capable of telling it to an adult they trust, thus giving them an advantage against the predator.
Teach them they are the owners of their bodies. Children and teenagers must know nobody can touch, see or talk about their private parts in inappropriate situations. This lesson can be taught from the moment they are learning how to go to the bathroom. It is important to tell them, with age-appropriate language, no one can touch them and. In the case it happens, they must tell their parents right away. This type of conversation must be done over time and according to the child’s age, detailing the situations more and more, and reassuring no one can make them feel uncomfortable, even if there is someone close to the family. Children must understand you will believe them.
They must understand the difference between secrets and surprises. They need to understand they must never keep secrets about the private parts. The term ‘secret’ can be confusing for children when it comes to surprises (they may think of a party or a gift, for example.) You must insist in establishing a difference because, at the end of the day, you can find out about a surprise, but a secret is something that cannot be told otherwise it could harm us. If children understand this difference, predator will not be able to make children keep the secret.

Share your own experiences dealing with so many emotions and feelings as much as you can. They reach to close relatives for wisdom and to understand what they are going through. Sharing your experiences helps children learn how to express emotions and name what they do not comprehend. For example: “I was so frustrated this morning because I left home late. I walked with butterflies in my stomach the whole time.” When you relate emotions with words and share them with children, they learn to express their own feelings like anger, confusion, happiness and sadness, and to be empathic with others.
Ask permission to children to touch them. By doing so, you give them a sense of control over their bodies. If they find a predator, they will know the difference and will be able to identify shady people, especially because predators do not ask for permission.
Give them the power to say No and to be frank. Promote emotional honesty and show them physical boundaries, it gives them control over their body. Nevertheless, they may not be able to say no to a predator or to stop the abuse, whether is because of fear or the abuser is too strong. If this was the case, the important thing is to make them understand they must not reaming silent and tell everything that happened. They must be certain you will believe them and that they will not be into trouble or someone else will get into trouble for what it happened.

The responsibility falls on the father, mother, or person in charge of the minor to manage to make them share the abuse they went through, and to reassure them they will have all the help they need. Is most cases, children do not tell what happened, that is why is important to encourage them to stay away from any traumatic situation because they may not be able to handle the emotional weight this creates. Prevention is important because:

Give the necessary tools to protect children
Help them stay safe

A new phenomenon strikes social media: children under the age of 13 record themselves naked in suggestive positions or masturbating in their bedroom or bathrooms. Sometimes they are with friends or a relative the same age. The idea is to upload those videos in their social networks to gain followers and likes without their parents knowing anything.

Being Precocious on Social Media

Early sexualization of teenagers and the superficiality of sex in social media have generated this raging display from the minors.

A society where children associate beauty with a sexual element can lead teenagers of 12 or 13 years of age to an early sexualization, and be perceived as sexual objects; especially because all they want is to be like the adults and be part of their world.

From early 2018, a great number of sexual exploitation from minors was detected in social media in Spain. It was proved that the material came from the said minors.

Nowadays, children from the age of eight show complete use of YouTube, even knowing how to upload videos on the platform, and which pose will give them more likes.

Spanish police found out that 110 minors age 13 had produced the material and that they shared it on social networks like YouTube and Twitter, to name a few. The recent scandal after the arrest of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein shows how money and power are helpful to be unpunished for many years. Epstein is accused of pedophilia, for having sexually abused girls, both at its offices in the city of Manhattan and the called Pedophilia Island.

In the Caribbean enclave of St. Thomas everyone knows billionaire Jeffrey Epstein, owner of the Little St. James Island for more than 20 years. This island was transformed radically, after modifying its native vegetation surround the property with towering palms and plant two huge American flags on both ends.

During the complaint he contacted personalities of the British royalty, ensuring that the authorities were in possession of videos and photos of her in sexual activity with powerful friends of the accused.

The charges brought against the accused are not only for sexual abuse of minors, he also attempted bribing two potential witnesses in the case in which he is accused, where it was shown that the tycoon came to pay a total of $ 350,000 US dollars to two people so that they changed their testimony.

Latin America is considered one of the regions with the highest rate of sex violence to girls, as well as having the highest rate of pregnancies in girls and teens as a result of sexual abuse In which, generally, their victimizers are their closest relatives, even their own parents.

Girls that lose their childhood

There are many stories of girls that are sexual violence survivors, who have suffered this traumatic experience repeatedly. Some of them have become pregnant, then have no state protection.

Below Africa, Latin America has the highest rate of underage pregnancies that result of sexual abuse, which represents more than one million children and teenagers in the region.

According to statistics:

In Ecuador, daily, 7 girls under 14 years old become pregnant as a result of rape

In Mexico, 60% of cases the offenders happen to be relatives or acquaintances

In Nicaragua, 8 out of 10 victims of sexual violence are girls under 13

In Argentina, every 3 hours a girl between 10 and 14 becomes a mother

In Peru, every day 4 girls under 15 years old have a baby

In Guatemala, the leading cause of school dropout and adolescents is pregnancy.

Early pregnancy has a devastating impact on the lives of girls, in emotional, physical and social levels, mainly because it is a forced event. As minors, they not mature enough to cope with the experience they’re having.

The girls, as a result of pregnancy- suffer from depression, nervousness, anxiety and profound disorders at all levels of their life. Many of them can no longer continue with their studies and this affects them in the short and long term, amid a discriminatory environment.

Violence on girls

Latin America is one of the regions with the most victims of sexual violence. United Nations figures indicate that in the world there are 1.1 billion girls who are raped in their fundamental rights, sexual violence considered one of the most common practices against girls between 3 and 18 years and one every four has married before reaching 18 years old.
